Design Thinking in the Methodology of Scientific Research

Objective of the Course
The purpose of studying this discipline is to introduce students to the applied tools of design thinking and teach them how to use these tools in scientific research. This will help generate new ideas, formulate scientific hypotheses, rapidly prototype solutions, and strategize their scientific activities.

Course Tasks (Learning Objectives)
The course aims to rethink existing knowledge and create new integrated knowledge and professional practices. This is achieved by developing students' competencies necessary for solving complex problems in research-innovation and professional activities. Students will master the methodology of design thinking to conduct original scientific research in entrepreneurship, trade, and stock exchange activities, ensuring scientific novelty, as well as theoretical and practical significance.

Subject of the Course
The course covers the theory, methods, and applied tools of design thinking for conducting scientific research in entrepreneurship, trade, and stock exchange activities.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

Upon completing the course, students should:

  • Know key principles of modern theories and recent advancements in entrepreneurship, trade, and stock exchange activities.
  • Be able to comprehend the fundamental principles and methodological tools of design thinking for systematic scientific research.
  • Possess knowledge of the culture of scientific research and academic integrity.
  • Understand the criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of scientific research results.
  • Be familiar with approaches to preparing scientific and academic personnel.

Skills

Students should be able to:

  • Develop a research plan and generate new scientific ideas using design thinking tools.
  • Apply modern methods of academic writing in scientific work while adhering to academic integrity principles.
  • Present scientific results in Ukrainian and English to the academic community, expanding the boundaries of scientific knowledge.
  • Interpret scientific research results within selected areas of economic activity.

Communication

Students should be able to:

  • Communicate with various target audiences regarding scientific research in Ukrainian and English.
  • Conduct information searches and transmit scientific information using modern information and innovative technologies.

Autonomy and Responsibility

Students should:

  • Demonstrate authority, creativity, a high level of self-learning and self-realization, academic integrity, and a consistent commitment to developing new ideas in advanced scientific contexts.
  • Think independently and critically, formulate ideas, and generate hypotheses using design thinking tools.
  • Understand personal responsibility for professional and/or managerial decisions or recommendations that may impact scientific research outcomes or its specific components.
