Innovation and Intellectual Property

1. Purpose of the course and its connection with other disciplines

Course goal:
To familiarize doctoral students with the theoretical, methodological, and applied aspects of innovation studies and obtaining intellectual property rights for the products of scientific activity.

Interdisciplinary connections:
The course "Innovation and Intellectual Property" is based on the knowledge, skills, and practical competencies acquired through studying such disciplines as Philosophy of Science, Methodology of Economic Research, Economics of Innovation, Innovative Development, Creative Management, and other economic subjects.

2. Learning outcomes and competencies that the student will acquire upon completing the course

Knowledge:

  • Possess advanced conceptual and methodological knowledge in innovation studies and intellectual property, as well as at the intersection of related fields;
  • Have the ability to master technologies for generating new knowledge and implementing innovations, as well as understanding the logic, forms, and mechanisms of acquiring and protecting copyright for scientific results;
  • Be able to develop mechanisms for the protection of intellectual property rights and the commercialization of scientific creativity outcomes.

Skills:

  • Apply methods and models of innovation in scientific creativity while maintaining proper academic integrity;
  • Apply current Ukrainian legislation and international agreements in the field of innovation and intellectual property in practice;
  • Select appropriate intellectual property protection systems for the results of personal scientific work and elements of scientific novelty in the author's research;
  • Assess the value of intellectual property rights and develop models for their commercialization.

Communication:

  • Communicate confidently on issues of innovation and intellectual property with colleagues, the wider scientific community, and society as a whole;
  • Use the conceptual and categorical framework of innovation and intellectual property in academic Ukrainian and foreign languages in professional activities and research.

Autonomy and Responsibility:

  • Demonstrate authority, innovativeness, a high level of independence, academic and professional integrity, and consistent commitment to the development of new ideas in advanced contexts of professional and scientific activity;
  • Possess the ability for continuous self-development, self-improvement, and the renewal of innovative thinking at the intersection of ideas, concepts, and cultures.
